sjöhäxan Highly anticipated and an instant favorite of mine, Homecomer contains all the magic and wonder that I love about Umbría's work. With previous albums reminiscent of journeying, Homecomer takes us on a road less traveled to the end of our enchanted trek. There is such lush storytelling throughout, and coupled with the incredible composition, this magical energy carries us through to the very end. Favorite track: The Procession of the Beasts.

MarsDragoner Unbelievably varied and pleasant album. The instruments sound so very rich and full, the compositions range from jolly bard tunes to heroic hymns and mystical invocations. The journeying aspect of this release is executed superbly, every song's placement contextually makes sense. This leads to a rewarding and satisfying experience all throughout the album. It is not often that imagination is encouraged to roam and dance this freely. Favorite track: Across the Stone Forest.

1.
The Highlands are a vast, beautiful and menacing territory. The landscape is challenging to the voyager, but every new horizon is a rewarding sight. Armed with hope and determination, the traveller begins the way back home.
2.
It is said the Stone Forest was the burial grounds of olden druids. Enormous monoliths and ancient altars tower over a foggy landscape of moss and rock. The traveller finds a solitary hawthorn and raises her hand to take one of its scarlet fruits, but a sharp thorn from the mysterious tree pierces her wrist.
3.
As days pass by, the wound in the traveller’s wrist becomes more painful. The cut starts turning silver green, and her healing ointments don't seem to work. Strange dreams of an infinite forest visit her in her sleep every night.
4.
A familiar shape starts shaping over the hills as the traveller walks the path. The tower in ruins of an old king rises above a stone mount. Tales say that the monarch went mad and commanded his servants to seal him into his tower, so no one could ever deprive him of his fortune.
5.
A mysterious encounter surprises the traveller during the journey: an enormous bear seems to be following her. The animal seems friendly, and day after day, new beasts join the procession. Soon, the traveller finds herself surrounded by a large parade of wolves, foxes, deers and other forest creatures.
6.
At dusk, the traveller finds the caravan of a group of minstrels from distant lands. The musicians happily welcome her to their camp, sharing their fire and wine and playing songs from their longed for homeland.
7.
When the traveller pays a visit to an old herbalist, the sightless man reveals to her a fateful legend. The Forest Bearer was said to be an adventurer who, pierced by a mystical plant, became the walking seed of a future forest. When death arrived, the spell turned him into a tree, and a whole forest emerged around him.
8.
Devastated by the fateful revelation, the traveller heads to a known nearby cathedral seeking help. The sisterhood gives refuge to the disheartened woman, but has no cure for her condition. Despite her fate, the sisterhood comforts the traveller, giving her strength and guiding her towards her last quest: to get home.
9.
Trying to resist the pain, the traveller sets off for her home, enjoying her last sight of her homeland. She is determined to arrive, but in the final leg of the journey, her body starts to fail. Then, the parade of animals gather around, helping her to get on a bear's back. And so, her last ride across the Highlands begins.
10.
The procession arrives at the small village right after the sunrise, but as the traveller's feet step over the wet grass, the spell is unleashed. Her skin hardens as oak bark, her arms rise replete with leaves and her legs take root into the soil. The traveller feels her mortal life coming to an end, but smiles as a thousand sprouts start emerging from the earth around her. She is finally home, as she will forever be.

about

The time has come. The traveller has walked a thousand paths across many lands; her bag is full of memories, and her heart replete with fulfillment. Now the quest is over, and her homeland is calling from afar, deep within the Highlands. Finally, it is time to go home.
